The history of food carpentry
It all started in 2017 with equal parts passion for food and people.
After graduating from Aarhus University with a master's degree in Nordic Languages and Literature and philosophy and a year as a high school teacher, it was as if something was missing... A great urge to create combined with a great passion for food and people was the start of Philips' food adventure.
Back in 2017, Philip Kim Hougesen started his food adventure in Aarhus with a little savings, a lot of courage and a home-designed sandwich bike. It was supposed to be colorful, popular and festive. It was and fortunately still is. Throughout the summer, he sold homemade gourmet sandwiches, got a lot of kilometers in his legs and a good portion of experience.
Then the amazing thing happened: Philip's wife Katrine Kim Hougesen became pregnant. And with a budding dream of an independent entrepreneurial life based on creating good experiences and memories for others through food, combined with a good family life, it led them to beautiful Samsø, where Philip and Katrine moved in late summer 2017.
Today, Philip and Katrine work together in their innovative food house on Samsø, where they run Samsø Madsnedkeri and they say:
"Samsø Madsnedkeri is our urban food universe where our love for good and honest food lives and breathes. We are an innovative food house - where our playground for craftsmanship, traditional cooking and new recipes with global food trends are explored and experienced. We use as many local ingredients as possible. This means that our restaurant is seasonal."
In addition to a popular restaurant on Samsø, it has become a series of handmade gourmet products made from local ingredients from Samsø, a cookbook, a children's universe "Sam & Søs", as well as a number of creative projects, which you can read more about in our farm shop presentation here.
